Taira has a Master's in Second Language Teaching and a B.A. in Spanish, both from Utah State University. She is originally from Honduras and moved to Utah when she was 14. While earning her degree, she started teaching Spanish for the Languages, Philosophy, and Communication Studies department, then got hired as an adjunct lecturer teaching English for the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) Taira loves meeting students from all over the world and learning about the cultures they come from. She serves as the advisor for the IELI Student Association and also mentors Chinese scholars teaching IELI classes as part of the co-op agreement between USU and various universities in China. When not at work, Taira loves traveling and spending time with her 3 children.
